1993 Inductees Sly & The Family Stone made it possible for Black popular music to burst free on its own terms, with singer, songwriter, and producer Sly Stone at the helm, extending the boundaries of pop and R&B with each new song. The Family Stone’s live performances were legendary, starting with their show-stopping set at Woodstock, and Sly’s work inspired giants from Janet Jackson to Prince.
