A Special Message from Paul McCartney HERE
Today, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame opened the doors to their exciting new exhibit “Paul McCartney and Wings.” This is the first major museum exhibition to explore the story of Paul McCartney and Wings – a defining force in 1970s rock that bridged the gap between the end of The Beatles and the rise of a new era in popular music. Tickets are on sale now at RockHall.com.
Comprised of the most extensive collection of items from McCartney’s personal archives to be made accessible to the public as well as donations from band members and associates, “Paul McCartney and Wings” will trace the arc of Paul McCartney’s post-Beatles reinvention – from his self-titled 1970 debut album through the formation of Wings to the band’s dissolution in 1981.
The exhibition features numerous never-before-displayed artifacts, including Paul McCartney’s Gibson Firebird III and “Helen Wheels” Lucite guitar used during Wings recording sessions and tours, handwritten lyrics and George Martin’s original scores for songs like Live and Let Die and Uncle Albert, original album artwork and design mock-ups for McCartney, RAM, Wild Life, and Band on the Run, stage-worn jackets, suits, and kaftans worn by Paul and other Wings members, rare tour memorabilia including Wings Over America itineraries and tour bus panels, and previously unseen photography by Linda McCartney and others, all presented within an immersive experience incorporating archival video, audio, and images.
“Working on an exhibition isn’t so different from making music—there’s inspiration and vision, uncertainty and discovery, finding a common rhythm, learning to communicate in new ways, taking risks, and a lively exchange between individual ideas and the collective, said Andy Leach, Curator of “Paul McCartney and Wings.” The story of Wings, and this exhibition, is about working together to start again, building something from the ground up, and moving it forward even when the path ahead isn’t always clear. This is what Wings has come to represent to me, and what I’ve learned about curating exhibitions—that creative journeys can unfold in unexpected ways. You begin without knowing exactly where it will lead, and over time, through collaboration and dedication, you make something you’re proud to share—something that grows wings and takes flight.”
“Paul McCartney and Wings” is made possible, in part, by support from KeyBank, Raymond James, George Barrett, Todd & Karen Ruppert, and Dan & Ellen Zelman
