Muddy Waters 2000

Blues legend Muddy Waters was honored for the fifth annual American Music Masters series.

More than any other artist, Waters played a significant role in making the connection between deep Mississippi Delta blues and hard edged, urban and electric Chicago blues.  Since Waters’ rise to prominence in the early 1950’s at least two generations of American and British music giants have been influenced by Waters including Chuck Berry, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Bonnie Raitt and the Rolling Stones (who named their group after one of Waters’ songs).

Tribute Concert Performers: Jon Cleary, Deborah Coleman, James Cotton, Double Trouble, Levon Helm, Johnnie Johnson, Robert Lockwood, Jr., Charlie Musselwhite, Bonnie Raitt, Paul Rodgers, Hubert Sumlin, Otha Turner & the Rising Star Fife and Drums Band, Jimmie Vaughan
