Rock Hall Live returns this summer with must-see performances. Don't miss the Old 97's live on the lakefront Thursday, August 27th.

Old 97's

Old 97’s One of the most enduring bands in the alt-country community, the Old 97’s merge power pop melodies with a classic country feel, anchored by the rock-solid twang of guitarist Ken Bethea and the emotive vocals of Rhett Miller, whose tales of romantic misadventure hit a sweet spot between yearning and swagger. The band first made a nationwide splash with their second album, 1995’s Wreck Your Life, while their major-label debut, 1997’s Too Far to Care, revved up their rock & roll leanings and punched up the melodic hooks. Despite positive reviews and a loyal following, the band never quite broke through to mainstream success, and in the 2000s, they left the major labels to return to the independents. The Old 97’s soldiered on to become alt-country’s greatest survivors, playing fiery live shows and releasing spirited albums like 2014’s insouciant Most Messed Up, 2020’s rollicking but thoughtful Twelfth, and 2024’s loose and eclectic American Primitive.

BUGA

Buga formed originally as a duo between songwriter/singer/ producer Grant Anusbigian and guitarist Cameron Criss in Brooklyn, New York, after struggling to find like-minded musicians who had an affinity for lost records and 7-inch singles from the 1960s and 1970s. The midwestern duo Grant – Detroit, Michigan, and Cameron- Akron, Ohio, expanded upon their initial influences to form a full five-piece live band and perform at venues and clubs across New York City and Brooklyn. Buga has become a staple of the current New York City alternative country and indie rock scene. Buga has been featured in Relix Magazine and New Commute and has worked with producer Tucker Martine (My Morning Jacket, The Decemberists, Old 97s) on their recorded singles and upcoming EP.
