Sit down with music manager and writer Peter Jesperson, singer, songwriter, and frontman, Tommy Stinson of The Replacements, and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Senior Director of Museum & Archival Collections, Andy Leach, for a discussion on Euphoric Recall, Jesperson’s memoir regarding his half century in the music business. Followed by a book signing with Jesperson and a performance from Tommy Stinson.

Tommy Stinson Bio

Singer, songwriter, sideman, and frontman, Tommy Stinson has assumed many different roles in his remarkable 40-year musical odyssey. A co-founder of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees The Replacements, Stinson started performing with the band at age 12, and saw the group through its epic 11-year run. Following the band’s break-up, Stinson would go on to lead his own critically acclaimed combos Bash & Pop and Perfect. For well over a decade, Stinson also served as the bassist and musical lieutenant to Axl Rose in Guns N’ Roses. In 2017, following a triumphant Replacements reunion, Stinson reformed Bash & Pop, and released the brilliant Anything Could Happen on Fat Possum Records. Under the moniker Tommy Stinson’s Cowboys In The Campfire, his latest recording is called Wronger.

Peter Jesperson Bio

I have been a music fanatic all my life. My first job in the field was distributing British rock weekly the New Musical Express in 1972. I was hired at Oar Folkjokeopus (record store) the following year, was made manager in 1975, and worked there until the summer of ’83. In 1977 I co-founded Twin/Tone Records, primarily handling A&R and distribution. In 1980 I discovered and signed The Replacements, soon became their manager and co-produced their first four albums. Other notable signings include Soul Asylum, Vic Chesnutt, Chuck Prophet, and Ben Lee.

In 1983 I became interim tour manager for R.E.M. I DJ-ed at KRSI-KFMX (’74-’75), rock club The Longhorn (’77 -’81) and at KREV/REV 105 (’94-’97). I moved to Los Angeles in 1995 to work Twin/Tone releases with the help of Restless Records. I joined New West Records in 1999 as VP of A&R and Production. I went freelance in 2016, doing A&R, production, and music-related writing. In November of 2023, I released a memoir, Euphoric Recall, regarding my half century in the music business.
