Join the Rock Hall as we celebrate and honor Juneteenth by taking a deep dive into the rich history and legacy of Black music in Cleveland — from the historic days of Leo's Casino all the way to today's current music scene.
The event will kick off at 7 pm with a panel moderated by Robert Hubbard, featuring Jul Big Green and LaToya Kent. After the panel, stick around for a live performance at 8 pm with Hubbs Groove.
This is a free community event that takes place outside on the Rock Hall’s Plaza. Event RSVP is for the outdoor event only. Museum admission sold separately. Museum admission is always free for Members and City of Cleveland residents through the CLE VIP program.

Robert Hubbard
Meet Robert Hubbard, the extraordinary drummer and founder of the celebrated All-Star band, Hubb’s Groove. Based in Northeast, Ohio, Robert has cultivated a unique musical experience that seamlessly blends Soul, Jazz, R&B, and a touch of Gospel. With a commitment to heartfelt performances, Hubb’s Groove delivers a smooth yet high-energy sound that resonates deeply with audiences, proving that music played from the heart truly reaches the heart.

LaToya Kent
LaToya Kent is a full-time artist, musician, doula, and healer with over 25 years of experience. Her career started in her teen years in Cleveland, Ohio. Latoya has performed her music throughout the United States and internationally as a solo artist and with her current collective, Mourning {A} BLKstar. This collective earned the Cleveland Arts Prize in 2021. They had the opportunity to perform at The Kennedy Center, Democracy Now, Lincoln Center, and graced the cover of WIRE magazine. LaToya runs Cleveland Tapes, an underground art and music platform, with her longtime collaborator, RA Washington. She is a board member for the Panza Foundation, which sponsors and supports musicians and music institutions in Northeast Ohio.

Jul Big Green
Jul Big Green is a cross genre artist from Cleveland, Ohio. Who plays Pop-rock, with heavy Hip-Hop influences. “Positive thought provoking poetry, set to a wide variety of musical styles.”

Hubbs Groove
Hubb’s Groove, Inc. is a mix of Soul, Jazz, R&B, and a splash of Gospel. This All-Star band is led by Northeast Ohio’s drummer extraordinaire; Robert Hubbard Jr. Hubb’s Groove is a smooth yet high energy band that believes what is played from the heart reaches the heart!
Under the original name of “Moment’s Notice”, the band was founded by Robert Hubbard in 1996 and later in 2006, changed its name to “Hubb’s Groove”. The band has shared the stage with musical greats such as Terrance Blanchard, Gary Burton, Jonathan Butler, Randy Crawford, Will Downing, Ellis Marsalis, Najee, Wayman Tisdale, Kirk Whalum, Earth Wind & Fire, Pieces of a Dream, and Tony Toni Tone.
Hubb’s Groove has performed with Gerald Albright, Angela Bolfill, Alex Bugnon, Conya Doss, Mikki Howard, Marcus Johnson, Sean Jones, Gerald Levert, Mike Phillips, Brian Simpson, Vesta Williams, Changing Faces, and Men at Large.
Hubb’s Groove, Inc. has earned honorable achievements such as Fox 8’s Favorite Band, the 2019 Cleveland Best Band Award, and was deemed the Best Jazz Band from The 2022 Music Awards after playing for Mayor Bibb’s Inaugural ball. The band was deemed the Best Jazz Band from the 2023 Cleveland Music Awards and just recently Mr. Hubbard was recognized as a 2024 Jazzfest legend at Tri-C.
The current band members include James Blaque on bass, Mathew Horwich & Roger Maple on sax, George Granville & Gerrond Masson on keyboards, Robert Hubbard Jr on drums. Their vocalists are Mazhorell Johnson and Adrianna Miller.
