Join us for our 2025 Fall Film Series, where we explore films that highlight the powerful connection between music and comedy, in celebration of our new exhibit SNL: Ladies & Gentlemen…50 Years Of Music.
This week, we’re showcasing Richard Linklater’s 2003 comedy School of Rock, where the overly enthusiastic guitarist Dewey Finn (Jack Black) is kicked out of his band and ends up posing as a substitute music teacher at an elite private elementary school. He teaches his students about the hard rock gods he idolizes and emulates – much to the consternation of the uptight principal (Joan Cusack). As he gets his privileged, precocious, and talented students to «live hardcore», he imagines redemption at a local Battle of the Bands. Check out the trailer below:
