“It’s really exciting for us to get to work with such an incredible group of artists each year to celebrate the inductees with reverent and heartfelt Amazon Original covers,” said Stephen Brower, Global Co-Lead of Artist Relations for Amazon Music. “I’m certain that fans will find these new versions to be interesting, perhaps surprising, and ultimately just really great listens.”
“I am so glad that Judas Priest are being recognized by the Rock Hall,” said Dave Mustaine of Megadeth. “Rob’s singing just goes without saying, and the guitar playing is just magical. Just top-of-the-food chain stuff that laid a path forward for countless artists in their wake. Going back and learning Judas Priest’s chord shapes and progressions on this track was a reminder of why they inspired me, and our genre, so much. Had I not learned it from Priest, I might not have learned it at all.”
“There are not a lot of love songs about enduring love. About finding ways to love the same person every day, and the way Carly describes it in “Coming Around Again” is both devastating and inspiring,” notes Maya Hawke. “Some kind of carousel of getting your heart broken and falling back in love that slowly turns throughout a lifetime. It’s so smart and so in tune with what I imagine the truth might be.” Hawke’s version also includes a beautiful background vocal performance from Samia.
“First off, this is some of the most fun I’ve ever had in the studio,” remarked Lee Brice. “Although it was daunting to think about following in the footsteps of an icon like Lionel Richie, it was such an honor to be asked. I am incredibly humbled and excited at the same time. This song is such a timeless classic, and breaking it down to go re-record it, I realized even more why it is so special. Honestly, I’m still nervous. I just hope he likes it!”
“What can you do with a classic song like this but dive in and explore the depths?” said Alynda Segarra of Hurray for the Riff Raff. “I arrived to the studio off a flight from Paris, jetlagged and returning home from a European tour. The lyrics for ‘Sweet Dreams’ touched me then in a way they never had. Suddenly I heard what Annie Lennox was saying; it was a warning.” Segarra continues, “My whole life I watched her sing it and she was so strong— superhero to me, with her suit and cropped hair. I vowed, as a kid, to one day be that unshakeable. But life happens to us all. So, I sing it today from a tender place, weary from the brutality of our world but not broken. As Annie told us all—hold your head up, keep your head up.”
