An extraordinary guitarist, 1995 Inductee Dickey Betts was an essential component of The Allman Brothers Band’s improvisatory magic. In the group’s early days, Betts and Duane Allman shared lead guitar duties, scrapping traditional lead/rhythm roles and breaking new ground with double-barreled harmony and counterpoint. Following Allman's death in 1971, Betts assumed sole lead guitar duties, and the band got even bigger. Betts added sweet, country-tinged flair to The Allman Brothers Band’s explosive sound, and he composed some of the most memorable songs in the band’s catalog, including “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed,” “Blue Sky,” and their only Top Ten hit, “Ramblin’ Man.”
