This is the summer to rock, and Summer in the City, the Rock Hall’s FREE live concert series, returns this season to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. Beginning on Wednesday, July 17th some of the country’s most buzzed about up and coming artists will perform on the Museum plaza (weather permitting, if necessary it will be moved inside to the Main Stage), and concessions will be available for purchase from the Museum and local food trucks on the plaza, as well. Summer in the City is sponsored by KeyBank and Yuengling.
PLEASE NOTE (Updated July 31): Due to potential inclement weather this evening, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum's Summer in the City free concert tonight will be moved inside to the Museum's Main Stage in the lobby. This show is standing-room only and capacity is limited. Admission will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Set-times for tonight:
7 p.m.: Doors
7:30 p.m.: Night Moves
8:45 p.m.: Father John Misty
Josh Tillman of Father John Misty has been recording/releasing solo albums since 2003 and recently left Seattle’s Fleet Foxes after playing drums from 2008-2011. Phil Ek (who has worked with Built To Spill, Modest Mouse, Band of Horses, Fleet Foxes) heard the rough versions of the album in May 2011 and offered his services to mix. “Phil and I have known each other for a while by virtue of Fleet Foxes, so he was familiar with my music, but we had never discussed working together. I think he immediately recognized the shift in my writing and singing from a producer and friend’s standpoint. His excitement is really evident in mixes, I think.”
Formed in 2009 by guitarist and vocalist John Pelant, bassist Micky Alfano and multi-instrumentalist Mark Ritsema, Night Moves is a distinctly original concoction. Their honey-dipped sound seethes with a kind of down-home tenderness the arrangements are colossal in shape. Night Moves’ powerful debut Colored Emotions is this Minneapolis group’s first album. The songs of Night Moves conjure a spiritual energy only twenty-somethings dislodged by adversity and isolation could produce. An album like Colored Emotions seems intent to turn inward to create a joyous universe within its own boundaries. Certainly, the group’s musical abilities are innate without ever being too self-conscious about it. It’s as if it came second nature to them and the arrival of the rest of us took them by surprise.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s FREE live concert series Summer in the City is returning for Summer ‘16! Prior to each concert, the Rock Hall will host a fan Q&A session with the artists on Periscope. RSVP for the Summer in the City concerts on the Rock Hall’s Facebook page for updates and concert info.
