Throughout his illustrious, decorated career, Gimel "Young Guru" Keaton has resoundingly earned his reputation as one of the most renowned recording and mixing engineers in music today.  Wisened after years of successful endeavors (multi-platinum albums, and multiple Grammy nods) Young Guru is now also elevating the discourse of audio engineering philosophy, science and technology, emerging onto the lecture circuit as one of the subject's most distinguished and dignified speakers, and further proving why he is one of audio's most important minds and essential voices.  Traveling the country, Guru's intellect and eloquence have been tapped by a broad variety of impressive venues, garnering him recognition from such media outlets as CNN, Fox News, Billboard and Village Voice.

Young Guru possesses over a decade of experience in sound engineering, production, and has also served as an A&R for Roc-A-Fella Records and Def Jam Recordings. Heralded most for sonically shaping some of hip-hop's brightest talents, Young Guru has established himself as consistently in-demand: mixing 10 of Jay-Z's 11 albums, and DJing on the Watch the Throne tour, as well as Jay-Z's legendary Carnegie Hall and Barclays Center shows. On several recordings, Jay-Z himself offers verbal acknowledgements of Guru's importance, an immensely respectful testament to Guru's exceptional skills behind the boards.

This program is presented in conjunction with the Rock Hall and Cuyahoga Community College's three-day series of events celebrating hip-hop music.  Other events include:

“From Songwriters to Soundmen: The People Behind the Hits” gives Rock Hall audiences an inside look at aspects of the music business that are often concealed from view.

For those who wonder how songs become recordings, how recordings become hits, or how the show gets on the road, this series offers both answers and anecdotes beyond imagination.

From label executives to producers to guitar techs, the music industry is populated with remarkable characters who have equally remarkable stories to tell. If many of us know a whole lot about the stars, too few among us know about the folks who work alongside the stars, who discover stars, who direct the careers of stars, who produce their songs.
