Director of Major and Planned Gifts - Job No. 1009

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum is currently considering applicants for the position of Director of Major and Planned Gifts.  The Director of Major and Planned Gifts reports to the Vice President of Development and is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to secure five and six figure gifts, including researching, targeting, cultivating, soliciting, securing, renewing and stewarding major gifts to achieve annual and long-range fundraising goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

1. Designs major and planned giving strategies to raise funds for annual operating and long-term projects. Implements strategy to meet or exceed operating and capital fundraising goals.
• Provides strategic opportunities for philanthropic participation to fulfill the organization’s mission.
• Preserves and deepens relationships with current and past financial supporters;
• Identifies prospects and establishes relationships with them.

2. Manages overall major gift prospect list.
• Reviews the current donor base and Rock Hall contacts to determine if any current or lapsed supporters are major gift prospects and targets those that need attention.
• Conducts prospect research and identification to help identify new major gift prospects.
• Meets with donors and trustees to secure their support in engaging those current prospects with whom they have connections.
• Implements cultivation strategies utilizing existing events, marketing materials and visits.
• Works with Fundraising Events Manager to create and execute cultivation and recognition events.
• Prepares funding proposals and case statements.

3. Provides support to VP Development, CEO, and trustees to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift prospects and donors.
• Coordinates VP Development, CEO, and trustees as needed in making solicitations and provides appropriate solicitation materials.
• Tracks progress and communicates with staff and solicitors regarding status of campaigns.

4. Provides consistently excellent personal service when managing relationships with donors and co-workers.
•  Aligns donor interests with Museum benefit opportunities.
• Works with VP of Development to negotiate and adjust benefits as necessary and appropriate.
• Assures timely gift acknowledgments and fulfillment of donor benefits.
• Responds promptly to inquiries and requests from donors and prospects.
• Facilitates correspondence with major donors.

5. Additional activities:
• Tracks gifts and provides timely reporting of campaign status
• Assists with the preparation of the annual department budget.
• Remains knowledgeable about past, present and future Museum activities.
• Stays current on innovative ideas and best practices in the development field and practices within the AFP Code of Ethics.
• Sustains a competent level of mastery of Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge.
• Assists co-workers as requested or needed.
 
Duties include but may not be limited to the above.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in related field required.
• Ten (10) years of nonprofit service experience preferably in a museum or cultural institution.  Development experience necessary.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to deal effectively with donors and co-workers.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
• Strong affinity for rock and roll music is highly desired.
• Ability to successfully pass a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum reference check, background investigation and drug screening.
• Computer literate:  Microsoft products; database management system.
• Ability to get along with other people.

WORK SCHEDULE:
Ability to work 40 hours per week; any shift as assigned, including evenings, weekends and holidays.  Ability to work additional hours as workload demands.  Hours are primarily 8:30 am – 5:30 pm Monday through Friday.
