Billie Joe Armstrong and Iggy Pop perform at the 2010 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

Admittedly, working at the museum provides a unique perspective on the induction ceremony. We sometimes will know far in advance who is or isn’t appearing and who may or may not perform. You look at it on paper and the conversation starts. What will this year’s event be like? It’s taken me a long time to come to a conclusion but I think I’ve figured it out. It doesn’t matter if this band member doesn’t come or that artist doesn’t perform. That’s all distraction. What makes each annual ceremony a singular event is the display of real human emotion. That’s all that truly matters. It’s the moment these performers drop the artifice and protection mode they often employ just to survive being in the spotlight, and genuinely reveal themselves. Last night at the Waldorf, Iggy Pop, the most fearsome and uncompromising performer I have ever seen, spoke of the Stooges and his late friend and band mate Ron Asheton, with tears in his eyes. ABBA’s Benny Andersson wistfully remembering buying his first record (Elvis Presley’s “Don’t Be Cruel” / “Treat Me Nice”) and how this new and totally foreign music captured him. Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder jumping on stage with the Stooges, embracing bassist Mike Watt and shouting along to “I Wanna Be Your Dog” like he’s been fanaticizing about it since he was 13 years-old. Graham Nash, now twice inducted, marveling at his 63 year friendship with fellow Hollie Alan Clarke.

Music is made real when it connects to the listener’s emotions. When the inductees speak from the heart, it’s where the Hall of Fame becomes real.

Johnny Rivers should be in the Hall of fame more then half the performers in this group.
Vote Johnny Rivers in now. This is a serious mistake leaving him out all these years!

I disagree, respectfully, with Mr. Kramer regarding the importance of having a band or band member show or not show up. There is no other hall of fame where the inductees choose not to show up. I feel cheated as fan that has supported these bands through all of the years - scraping together enough money to buy their albums and go and see them in concert and they decided that receiving what should be the highest honor in thier careers is not worthy of an appearance is not right. I know they do not owe their fans anything but they should remember who helped them achieve what they did. I look at a band like ABBA - I like them - but they are what I would call on the bubble as a band deserving of induction before some other bands and they could not all show up or even sing their own song? The reputation and importance of the RHOF will suffer if these behaviors are continued.

Let's not forget Alice Cooper (both the band and the man himself), who gets shunned year after year.

Please vote in Bread (so many hits like "If"), Grand Funk Railroad, Chicago (CTA), and of coarse Heart.

I frankly don't understand some of the choices over the years, given some of the most glaring omissions. You're ranged afar from rock and roll and influential figures in the growth of rock and roll.

The Dave Clark Five? Are you serious?

For my quarter, I'd like to see Paul Revere and the Raiders inducted while a few of the original members other than Revere (those who composed the musical presentation at its zenith), are still alive.

Why is it that for the past 11 years Rush has been looked aside. They have been the most deserving band out there yet because( and I hate to say it but its true), your basis toward Canadian music has caused them to be deneyed what is rightfully theirs and that is a spot amoungst rock and rolls greatest. The numbers dont lie:

Rush possesses 24 gold records and 14 platinum (3 multi-platinum) records.[4] According to the RIAA, Rush's sales statistics also place them fourth behind The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Aerosmith for the most consecutive gold or platinum albums by a rock band. Rush also ranks 79th in U.S. album sales with 25 million units.[5] Although total worldwide album sales are not calculated by any single entity, as of 2004 several industry sources estimated Rush's total worldwide album sales at over 40 million units.

So tell what more does Alex Lifeson, Geddy Lee, and Neil Peart have to prove. I'll give you the answer. Nothing, you have pass RUSH over for the last time induct them already.

Or just tell us the reason, give us one good reason why they are not deserving. I mean ABBA? come on man!

Johnny,

AMEN....RUSH should have been inducted years ago! What a joke. abba????

Marc | Wednesday, August 18: 9:16 a.m.

I can not believe that the two greatest keyboardests, Rick Wakeman & Keith Emerson have not been inducted. Both YES & ELP are "super groups", filled with members who were ( and still are ) cosidered the best in there field.

Bob Winand | Sunday, August 22: 8:39 a.m.

I absolutely agree with Jeffrey Kohlberg, Johnny Rivers should have been inducted LONG ago.

Ralph Whitten | Wednesday, September 29: 12:46 p.m.

Johnny Rivers. The man still tours and sounds fantastic. Please vote for his talent and contribution.

Megan | Friday, October 29: 2:10 p.m.

I'm boycotting going to the RRHOF until RUSH is inducted. Love them or hate them, for whatever reason...if the HOF can not recognize the band's staggering sales numbers, concert attendance, etc...over 35 YEARS!...I will not darken the doorway.

Heart should have been inducted along time ago. The Wilson Sisters still rock.
